Nice sites, good staff. Close to the trails and the highway. Sites don't seem to fill up until very late, if at all.

Love camping @ Roosevelt NP

This is the campground if you don't mind waking up one morning, as we did, to discover a fog enshrouded bison herd between you and the restrooms. That experience is indicative of what to expect at the north unit of Theodore Roosevelt Park that is different from the touristy south unit off Highway 94 in Medora ND.

Lucked out and had a site right next to the River. The view couldn't be beat. In general, prefer the North Unit compared to the crowded and busy South Unit.

We stayed here one night in our camper on a cross Canada/US tour. It was the most spectacular stay in 50+ days. A herd of buffalo visited our campsite after supper and returned during the night for a 30 minute visit under a full moon. Magic. Friendly staff. Thank you FDR.

From the Juniper campground as a base, we road our bikes several miles to scenic overlook, took a couple of day hikes and launched an overnight backpacking trip into the adjacent wilderness, all without getting into our car. Each of those trips, like the trip to the campground restroom, involved negotiating around the free roaming wild bison populate the area. Depending on the water flow, you can also paddle the little Missouri River that runs past the campground.
